HEMP OILS FOR OUR BODY

In recent years we are witnessing legislation loosening in regard to cannabis in some parts of the world. CBD hemp oils received a large boost for various ways of use. Representing a completely natural way with CBD oil for retaining our body’s balance. However, understanding the definition of hemp oils, types and ways of use can be a challenge for many, who are looking to help themselves with CBD.

When most people think about cannabis, they connect it with smoking and psychoactive effects. This is NOT the way CBD works. There are various ways of using CBD including oils, supplements, creams, liquids, and others. None of these result in the stereotypical “high”.

What Exactly is Hemp Oil CBD (cannabidiol)?

To start with, it is important to understand, that CBD (short for cannabidiol) is a completely natural compound found in cannabis plant. It is one of the many components called cannabinoids (for example, THCV, CBG, CBC etc.), which can be found in cannabis. Some of them only appear in lower concentrations.

Although, all cannabinoids have an important function, the most known and concentrated are CBD and THC. However, they differ a lot, especially as CBD is not psychoactive.

Connection Between CBD and Cannabis

CBD is an active chemical compound found in cannabis. Therefore, it is incorrect to state, that CBD is cannabis or marijuana. It is just a part of it. We often hear many comparisons between industrial hemp, marijuana, Indian cannabis etc. The truth is, cannabis is only one plant, with many subspecies. This is what differentiates the cannabinoid content in different types. With extracts and final product processing, we can mitigate these levels.

EFFECTS OF CBD HEMP OILS FOR OUR BODIES

CBD does not have psychoactive effects. Most people use CBD daily due to various health conditions or to improve their general wellbeing. Many use it as an alternative to certain medications, drugs. However, there is evidence CBD can affect some medications. In case you are using certain medications, please consult your doctor before using it.

Individuals commonly use cannabinoids to help with chronic pain, anxiety, depression, arthritis, and sleep disorders. Besides the mentioned ones, there is a long list of medical conditions, where CBD proved to be very effective.

The Endocannabinoid System

To understand how hemp oil CBD works and why we can benefit from it, we first have to understand our endocannabinoid system.

Endocannabinoid system is a biological system of all systems in our body. It includes a network of neurotransmitters and receptors very similar to compounds found in cannabis. These compounds work in hand with cells and tissues throughout the body. They help regulate and control processes such as inflammation, pain, neurogenesis (new cell production), immune system response, apoptosis (programmed cell death), and even psychological behavior and response.

Natural neurotransmitters and receptors, which make the endocannabinoid system are extremely spread throughout our entire body. Doctors even marked them as the most central component of health and healing. Scientifically, this is not discussed for long, as the system has been discovered only in the 90s by an Israeli scientist Dr. Raphael Mechoulam. You can read more about the endocannabinoid system here.

POTENCIAL HEALTH BENEFITS OF CBD

Cannabinoids affect almost every system in the human body. There is more than 20,000 published scientific studies on cannabinoids (according to NORML – National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws).

Linked to this research, CBD can help us with the following medical conditions and connected symptoms:

The list is far from finished and it is also important to know that research on the effects for variety of conditions are still ongoing.

WHAT EXACTLY ARE CBD HEMP OILS?

CBD oil is the final product, which includes cannabis extract. Extract is most often produced with alcohol or CO2 extraction. Unfortunately, high quality extraction is not cheap, as closed loop systems with pressure control are very expensive. However, this is the only way to produce a high quality uncontaminated final product.

Extracts can be found in the form of isolate, broad spectrum, or full spectrum. Isolate means that only one cannabinoid is isolated, broad spectrum excludes THC (often other compounds are deprived as well), and full spectrum is a whole plant extract, which includes a variety of cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes. Full spectrum is known as the most efficient approach as cannabinoids work best together due to the entourage effect. Furthermore, terpenes, which produce distinct aromas and taste, provide many positive effects as well.

In the final stages, the extract is mixed with oil (olive, hemp seed oil, MCT, or similar), which allows a simple and efficient absorption and processing for the body. Oils are one of the simplest ways of using CBD. Usually, the user takes a few drops of CBD oil under the tongue, holds it for about 30 seconds and then swallows it. This allows for better absorption and easier reach of the endocannabinoid system.

How CBD Oil Works?

CBD oil interacts with internal pathways of the endocannabinoid system. Two primary endocannabinoids (internal cannabinoids), which are body produces naturally are anandamide (AEA) and 2-AG. These molecules bind to cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are primarily located in the brain and central nervous system, while CB2 receptors are denser in organ tissue and immune system. You can read more about the cannabinoid receptors in one of the past articles here.

Endocannabinoids are responsible for ensuring homeostatic regulation on every level of biological life – from sub-cell level to an organism (Dr. Dustin Sulak – for NORML). However, this system can crash or get off balance when our body experiences disease or other “abnormalities”. These problems can occur in different forms, including physical injuries, disease, tissue inflammation, and others.

Sometimes our bodies do not produce enough endocannabinoids to bind to the belonging receptors CB1 and CB2. Theoretically, CBD oil can regain the natural balance of the body and real homeostatic health to our body systems.

As cannabidiol does not affect the CB1 receptor in the brain directly, it does not cause psychoactive effects. CBD affects other parts of the body such as organs, immune system, pain response system, and even the hormones system, which is crucial for regulating all aspects of our health.

CBD Oil for Our Body and Its Safety

CBD oil does not have side effects for our body, or they are minimal, which is one of the biggest advantages (contrary to many pharmaceutical products). In 2017 WHO issued a strong statement to all the world governments. They suggested CBD has medicinal properties, with minimal side effects. They issued an official statement:

» Based on evidence from studies, it has been determined that CBD oil is safe, well-tolerated, and not associated with any significant adverse public health effects« – WHO

Moreover, WHO continued that the active compound in cannabis is not connected to the potential for abuse, does not cause physical addition, and is generally tolerated very well, with a great safety profile.

To conclude, YES consuming CBD hemp oils is extremely safe.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CANNABINOIDS?

CBD and THC are absolutely the most abundant cannabinoids in cannabis. However, there are more than 140 other cannabinoids, which were discovered in this plant. Current research suggests there are a few other cannabinoids besides THC and CBD, which can have positive effects on our body. For example, compounds such as THCV and THCA showed great potential in wide range of medical conditions. Similar case is with cannabinoids such as CBDV, CBN, CBG, and CBC, which can create an anti-anxiety and anti-inflammatory effect on our body.

Furthermore, multiple studies have shown that full spectrum CBD oil works better for our body compared to pure CBD isolate. This is due to the entourage effect, where cannabis elements work best in a group, rather than isolated. For example, high quality full spectrum CBD oil also includes terpenes, flavonoids, and various cannabinoids.

HEMP OILS – WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A PRODUCT

It can be hard to differentiate between different cannabis CBD hemp oils. We can commonly find products, which only have good marketing rather than product expertise and the science behind it. Before buying a product, it is beneficial to check:

  1. CBD content (in % or milligrams)
  2. If it only includes hemp seed oil. Which is good as a part of the product, but alone it is far away from cannabinoid science.
  3. If it is Full spectrum – if you want the greatest effect
  4. The plant growing and processing details if possible.

KNOWLEDGE AND JUDGEMENT

Cannabinoid science is absolutely evolving and every year we discover new ways of how the endocannabinoid system works and how cannabinoids affect it. With growing popularity of CBD hemp oils, its reputation decreased a bit due to a very high number of low-quality products. If we check the ingredients in the CBD oil and do our research on the endocannabinoid system, the chances of choosing a better-quality product increase rapidly. Cannabinoid science clearly shows the positive results of using cannabinoids to improve a variety of medical conditions and general well-being.
